Radio Slovakia International has announced their RSI Quiz UNESCO in Slovakia R7. After summer break RSI disclosed round 7 quiz question in the month of September 2020. Listeners have answer a simple question on UNESCO heritage site in Slovakia. This months quiz focused on the last Slovak Natural site of UNESCO World Heritage.
The Ochtina Aragonite Cave
Listed as an UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and one-of-a-kind in Central Europe, Ochtinska cave boasts a unique aragonite decorations. This unique cave in Slovakia is filled with strange alien-looking aragonite mineral formations covering the ceilings and walls. Three generations of aragonite were discovered in the cave. The oldest is 138 thousand years old! One of only three known aragonite caves in the world, Ochtinska’s “Milky Way hall”. This Hall attracts all the visitors who come to see the rare formations shine like stars. The Milky Way Hall is perhaps the most beautiful - the ceiling is covered with white bunches of aragonite, glowing in the lamplight like stars in the night sky.
Aragonite decoration in the shape of needles,
tufts, branches, spirals, tips, sun and countless other forms. This unique formation
created by the activity of atmospheric waters in crystalline limestone’s of
white and blue-gray color. Specialty of this cave is, it was not created by
nature but human. And the formation of this cave as like Kidney, Needles and
branches.
