Radio Thailand World Service began its external service with broadcasts in foreign language under the call sign HSK9 on the 20th of October 1938. On June 24, 1932, the administrative system of Thailand changed from an absolute monarchy to constitutional one. The Public Broadcasting Department (PRD) was set up on May 03, 1933. It was established to carry out the task of informing the people on parliamentary democracy.

Since it began operation in 1930, Radio Thailand has been continuing to develop its programs and broadcasting. After the inauguration of external service (1938), it continuously expanded and improve over the decade.

Radio Thailand World Service now transmit, its signal via satellite to Udon Thai (modern Short wave relay since 1994) towards the listeners around the World. HSK9 now in 10 languages , which include English, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Burmese, Lao, Vietnamese, Khmer, Malaysian and Thai.
The program services comprise News, Reportage, Features and Analyses with the objective to inform the audiences about events and happenings in Thailand.
