Starting in 1975 to promote Australia's new health care system Medi-Bank, SBS Radio has grown up with multicultural Australia and is now the world’s most linguistically diverse broadcaster, a bridge linking to the 21 per cent of Australians who speak another language.
SBS Radio Competition 2020 Details
SBS is inviting aspiring writers from diverse backgrounds to share their stories and have their voices heard.
Do you have
a story about growing up in diverse Australia? Tell your story for the chance
to win $5000 to further your storytelling career. Entries open August 15, 2020. SBS strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to enter.
The SBS
Emerging Writers’ Competition is a chance for budding writers to share their
unique story and be in the running to win a prize pool of up to $10,000.

plenty of scope to write a memoir piece about some aspect of your formative
years.)

Entry Restrictions:
The Competition is open to Australian residents only, aged
18 and over who are not published authors of a book. Employees of the Promoter,
the Prize Supplier(s) and associated companies and their immediate families are
ineligible.

Period:Commences: 09:00 AEST/ADST on August 15, 2020
Closes:
18:00 AEST/ADST on September 15, 2020.
Maximum
Number of Entries: One per person
By entering
this competition the entrant is acknowledging that they approve of and grant
all rights necessary to the Promoter to enable the Promoter to share and use
the content in any way and in any media (including sharing on social media) and
that all participants (and where necessary their parent or guardian) are aware
and approve of this use.
How to enter:
During the
Competition Period, entrants must go to SBS Competition Page and
follow the directions to complete the online entry form.
Entrants must agree to sign up to the SBS Voices e-newsletter.
Entrants must register their details, including (but not limited to) name, address and phone number. By providing this information you agree to be contacted by the Promoter to provide all required contact details.
Entrants must submit a first-person memoir piece of 1000-2000 words on the topic of growing up in diverse Australia.
Major Prize:
There will
be one Major Prize where the first-place winner will receive $5,000.
- The Major Prize is valued at $5,000.
- Runners Up Prize/s:
- One Second-place entrant will receive $3,000.
- Two Honourable Mentions will be awarded $1,000 each.
- The Runners Up Prizes consist of $5,000 ($3,000 and 2 x $1,000)
- Each Runners Up Prizes have a total value of $5,000.
- Total value of all Prizes:$10,000

Winner Selection Process:
One major Prize Winner and 3 Runners Up will be selected from all valid entries.
Entries will be judged on a weighted criterion of 1) originality 2) creative flair 3) writing technique 4) story telling.
A panel of judges selected by the Promoter will judge all valid entries and the Winner(s) will be selected on Friday 30th October, 2020 at 11:59 at 14 Herbert Street, Artarmon, NSW 2064
