Voice of Turkey—TRT Urdu announced the question of the month
for the September 2018 Quiz at the beginning of the month. Similar to many
countries, August marks a historic day for Turkey. The quiz for September 2018
focused on this occasion. Listeners were asked to select the correct answer

Victory Day in Turkey
Zafer Bayramı, or Victory Day, is a national holiday
celebrated in Turkey on August 30. This day, also known as Armed Forces Day,
commemorates the victory in the Battle of Dumlupınar, which was a decisive
battle in the Turkish War of Independence in 1922. It honors Mustafa Kemal
Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey.
The Turkish Republic was proclaimed on October 29, 1923, in
the new capital of Ankara, where Atatürk was elected as the first President.
Victory Day was first celebrated on August 30, 1923, and was established as a
national holiday in 1935.
